New York City’s iconic Plaza Hotel is closing for a four-year renovation of its historic facade.

The closure, which is set to begin in Jan. 2027, will accommodate repairs to the hotel’s landmarked exterior, ensuring guest safety and adhering to preservation requirements, Plaza management said in a statement Wednesday.

The hotel operators did not reveal the cost and details of the restoration project. Nor did they say how the construction would affect residents of the 181 condos also located inside the Plaza building.

“The scope and complexity of the facade works require detailed planning and coordination with relevant stakeholders,” Plaza management said.

A spokesman for the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council told the NY Times that its 378 members who work at the Plaza will have the right to return to their jobs with the same pay when the hotel reopens, and that the union will attempt to find them alternative work in the meantime.

Rising 18 stories at the southeast corner of Central Park, the Henry Janeway Hardenbergh-designed Plaza has become one of the city’s most recognizable hotels.

Famous guests include novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda, actress Marlene Dietrich, and architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Owners of the hotel since it opened in 1907 include President Trump, who purchased the Plaza in 1988.

Trump, who featured in the 1992 film “Home Alone 2” in a scene filmed at the Plaza, sold the hotel at a loss in 1995.
