Marist poll finds NYC Mayor Mamdani approval rating at 48% as he approaches 100 days in office

NEW YORK — Mayor Zohran Mamdani has an approval rating of 48%, with a majority of New Yorkers thinking the city is headed in right direction under his leadership, a poll by Marist University found Wednesday.

The poll comes as Mamdani is rounding out his first 100 days in office. Conducted over the last week in March, the Marist survey is the first nonpartisan poll out on Mamdani since he took office in January.

His 48% approval rating, with 30% disapproving and 23% replying they were unsure, is below both former Mayors Eric Adams and Bill de Blasio at the same points in their leadership.

But Mamdani also performed more positively on several indicators, including the questions of whether he’s a hard worker, has a good grasp of the city’s problems and that he’s bringing on the changes he promised on the campaign trail.

Just shy of three-quarters of respondents said Mamdani is a hard worker; 64% said he understands the city’s problems; 60% said he’s fulfilling his campaign promises.

“When compared with his predecessors at similar points in their administrations, Mamdani outperforms both Eric Adams and Bill de Blasio among registered voters in terms of effecting positive change in New York City,” the pollster said in a release.

The poll surveyed 1,454 people and the margin of sampling error was plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.

During this first stretch of his mayoralty, he’s wielded his popularity in his dealing with President Donald Trump and in pushing state lawmakers in his efforts to raise taxes on the city’s wealthiest residents and corporations.
