NEW YORK — The husband of Food Network star Anne Burrell reportedly first found his wife collapsed on the shower floor before she was pronounced dead Tuesday morning.

It was six or seven hours after Stuart Claxton had last seen his wife alive in their Brooklyn apartment around 1 a.m., reported TMZ, citing law enforcement sources. Burrell was unconscious and unresponsive when he discovered her just before 8 a.m. and called for help.

The 911 dispatcher reportedly told Claxton to perform CPR on the “Worst Cooks in America” host while awaiting first responders, though her body was already cold. EMS personnel also attempted lifesaving measures when they got there but could not revive the chef.

Burrell married Claxton in 2021 and was stepmother to his son, Javier.

While an official cause of death was still pending Wednesday from the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, fire department officials said the 55-year-old appeared to have suffered cardiac arrest.

The longtime chef, known for her “rock star” style, spiky hair and seemingly boundless energy, had been a Food Network staple for decades, appearing on “Chef Wanted,” “Chopped,” “Food Network Star,” “BBQ Brawl,” “House of Knives” and many others. She was best known for mentoring hapless would-be chefs on “Worst Cooks,” which became her signature show.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Burrell had made her way to the Food Network by way of the restaurant industry, starting with a stint as a sous chef to Mario Batali on “Iron Chef.”

In a statement Tuesday, the Food Network called its fallen chef “a remarkable person and culinary talent.”
