FORT WORTH, Texas — “The Chosen” fans, rejoice: The long-awaited Season 6 now has a release date.

The biblical drama, based on the life of Jesus, has primarily filmed at Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian since Season 3. The show held its Season 5 world premiere in Red Oak in March 2025, ahead of its three-part theatrical release over consecutive weekends just a couple weeks later.

Production on Season 6 began in mid-April and wrapped in mid-September 2025.

The Season 6 release date was revealed on Good Friday, April 3, with an Instagram post of a shot from the upcoming season, which focuses on the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life. The shot features actor Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus, wearing a crown of thorns and carrying his cross on the way to his crucifixion.

The caption reads: “The journey has led to this. The Chosen story continues Nov 15 @primevideo.”

In a YouTube livestream on Palm Sunday, series creator Dallas Jenkins said Season 6 would release this fall, adding that final touches are being put on the season. Jenkins also noted that work on Season 6 took abnormally long because of visual effects and because episodes are still being translated into various languages. Season 6 will also have a longer runtime than previous seasons.

More on ‘The Chosen’

“The Chosen” is described as “a historical drama based on the life of Jesus and those who knew him.”

Season 5 followed Holy Week and the Last Supper, while Season 6 will cover the crucifixion and the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life before he is nailed to the cross.

Season 6 will premiere on Prime Video on Nov. 15, 2026, and the Season 6 finale will release in theaters on March 12, 2027.

“The Chosen” will return for a seventh and final season, and its premiere episode will also have a theatrical release just over a year later on March 31, 2028. It’s unclear when the rest of Season 7 will be released and how many episodes are in it.

On the Palm Sunday livestream, Jenkins said Season 7 would start filming in about a month, and also mentioned that Season 7 is not fully funded yet.

While fans wait for new episodes, they can stream the first five seasons of the show on Prime Video.
