Josh Duhamel has blasted Netflix for axing Ransom Canyon.

The 53-year-old actor was shocked the show wasn't renewed for a third season, after he thought it was "safe" due to previous ratings success, and he was "a little upset" with the decision.

He told Us Weekly: "I was pretty surprised, if I'm being honest.

"I thought [it was safe] because the show was No. 1 for almost two weeks and the numbers looked really, really good and people really loved the show.

"I was a little upset with Netflix for not giving the audience another season, because people really did love the show ... but that's the business."

However, Josh - who portrayed leading man Staten Kirkland in the romantic neo-Western television series - admitted he "gets it".

He added: "At the same time, I get it. They have their reasons for why things stay and why things go.

"I don't always understand those reasons, but it's not my job to question."

Despite that, Josh "feels bad" for the viewers who were engrossed in the series.

He said: "I've just gotta move on. I just feel bad for the fans who are really invested in it, and that's it, unfortunately."

Josh would love to star in another Western project in the future, after he felt "really comfortable" portraying Staten.

He said: "I'd much rather play a cowboy than a defence attorney."

Ransom Canyon is a Netflix drama series developed by April Blair, based on the popular book series by Jodi Thomas, which originally premiered in April 2025.

Set against the rugged backdrop of the Texas Hill Country, the story chronicles the intense lives, intersecting passions, and fierce land disputes of three powerful ranching dynasties fighting to safeguard their legacies.

As well as Josh, the cast featured Minka Kelly as Quinn O'Grady, a free-spirited dancehall owner and lavender farmer who returns home after chasing her musical dreams in New York City.

Alongside her, the series features Lizzy Greene as the disgraced cheerleader Lauren Brigman, Garrett Wareing as Lucas Russell, and Casey W. Johnson playing Lucas's brother, Kit.
