Will the world ever be unified?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: We live in a very confused world, and it seems the main reason is because everyone believes something different. I read an article titled “The Truth According to Me.” It was scary! If each person can define truth (the difference between right and wrong), it seems the world will never be unified. Will we ever get on the same page? – T.D.

A: Many people today say there is no such thing as absolute truth. We hear people from all walks of life declare this as truth. Why should we believe those who say “truth is whatever you want it to be?” People say what is true for one person may not be true for another.

But God’s Word makes it clear that this is wrong. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6, NKJV). Dozens of times, He declared, “I tell you the truth.” The Bible tells us that “grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:17, NKJV) and that God chose to give us birth through “the word of truth” (James 1:18, NKJV).

Before determining right from wrong, people must first align themselves with God. Only then is a person in a position to do right. The Bible says, “If you abide in My word … you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32, NKJV).

God will help us make decisions about what is right and what is wrong. That’s the way to live in freedom from sin. God has shown His truth to us in His written Word, the Bible, and in the living Word, Jesus Himself. He is Absolute Truth, and we can depend on Him absolutely!
