Q: My religion professor said the Gospel of Jesus Christ is for weak people who believe that He still hangs on a cross being crucified for every sin that is committed. He warned us that if we answer questions wrong on this matter, we would fail the course. He said that God gave the world to mankind to subdue it, so He left it up to us. This all troubles me and I’m tempted to fail the class just to prove the point. Am I wrong? – C.C.

A: Multitudes of people think of Jesus as still hanging on a cross. There’s no such truth. We do not preach a dead Christ hanging on a tree. This very minute Jesus is alive, and the Bible says that He is coming back to this earth again and will bring judgment and peace. “Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18, NKJV).

Someday the skies will be torn in two and Christ will come with the armies of Heaven and “evil will slay the wicked” (Psalm 34:21, NIV).

The Bible says that whoever calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved – that whosoever will may come to Him in repentance and receive His forgiveness and have eternal life. The “whosoevers” that come to Him will reign with Him in His great kingdom to come. What a glorious future there is for the Christian – the follower of the Lord Jesus.

 

Many people say, “I can’t commit to something I can’t do.” But when we come to Jesus and receive His salvation, it is Christ who holds us in the grip of His hand. “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12, NKJV).
