Michigan Democrat McMorrow to report $2 million haul for Senate bid

DETROIT — Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow brought in over $2.1 million for her U.S. Senate bid during the fundraising quarter that closed Monday, her campaign said.
The donations came in from more than 28,000 individual donors, including from all 83 Michigan counties and from all 50 states, according to her team. About 88% of contributions received were small dollar amounts of $50 or under and 97% were $100 or under. The Royal Oak Democrat has decided not to accept corporate PAC money, she said.
The McMorrow campaign said it did not have a cash-on-hand figure ready yet. Reports for the quarter aren't due to the Federal Election Commission until mid-July.
McMorrow's haul is a solid start for the first-time federal candidate as she seeks the seat left open by retiring Democratic U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township. She was first elected to the Legislature in 2018.
By comparison, U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin raised $3 million during her first, partial fundraising quarter in 2023 after launching her Senate campaign and before she had any primary challengers. Slotkin regularly led the Michigan delegation in fundraising hauls during her time in Congress.
McMorrow was the first Democrat to jump into the Senate race back in early April. Other high-profile candidates vying for the Democratic nomination include U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Birmingham; state Rep. Joe Tate of Detroit and former gubernatorial candidate and public health official Abdul El-Sayed of Ann Arbor.
On the Republican side, former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers of White Lake Township is consolidating early support from national Republican party leaders. U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, R-Holland, has also teased a run.
No other candidates have announced their receipts for the second quarter that ended June 30.
Michigan's Senate race is expected to be closely watched, as the battleground state gives Republicans one of their best pick-up opportunities in 2026.
