NEW YORK — A police officer and three other people were killed after a gunman opened fire Monday evening at a Midtown Manhattan office building that houses The Blackstone Group and NFL headquarters, police said.

The “lone shooter” was later “neutralized,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. Police sources said the man shot and killed himself.

Police sources identified the suspect as Shane Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas. Tamura was issued a concealed firearms permit by Las Vegas police in 2022.

The motive remained a mystery.

The shooting happened at 345 Park Ave. and 51st Street around 6:30 p.m., when police sources say a gunman entered the building with a rifle and started shooting, striking a cop and six civilians.

The police officer, who was off-duty and working as a security guard, was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he died, police said. At least three of the civilians have also died, police said.

The police officer was assigned to the 47th precinct in the Bronx, sources said. He has been a police officer since 2021.

As of 7:52 p.m. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch posted on social media that “the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”

Mayor Eric Adams earlier warned New Yorkers to avoid the area in a post on X: “New Yorkers: there is an active shooter investigation taking place in Midtown right now. Please take proper safety precautions if you are in vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street.”

The FBI is responding to the situation.

Tamura was reportedly wearing a bulletproof vest. Sources say he rode the elevator to the 32nd floor, where he barricaded himself before shooting himself. Police confirmed that he has died.
