4 soldiers charged for sexually assaulting college student on Army base

Four soldiers have been charged with sexually assaulting a college student last year at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state, officials said.

The victim, who was not identified, “has since commissioned as an officer in the Army,” Michelle McCaskill, spokesperson for the Army Office of Special Trial Counsel, told Stars and Stripes. She was allegedly attacked on Oct. 27, 2024 inside a barracks building on the base, which is shared by the Army and Air Force.

Few other details about the incident were provided.

Cpl. Pedro Angel Ruiz, Pvt. Deron J. Gordon, Spc. Jadon Bosarge and Pfc. Kallon Curiel are now facing charges in connection with sexual assault and other violations of the military’s Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Ruiz was charged with two counts of attempted sexual assault, one count of indecent recording, one count of distribution of indecent recording, one count of conspiracy to commit sexual assault and one count of obstruction of justice. He faces a maximum of 87 years behind bars.

 

Gordon was hit with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of abusive sexual contact, one count of indecent recording, one count of distribution of indecent recording, one count of conspiracy to commit sexual assault and one count of obstruction of justice. If convicted he could face a maximum sentence of 355 years in prison. He has already pleaded guilty to some of the charges against him, Stars and Stripes reported.

Bosarge’s charges include two counts of sexual assault, two counts of attempted sexual assault, one count of indecent recording, one count of distribution of indecent recording, one count of conspiracy to commit sexual assault and one count of obstruction of justice. He faces a maximum penalty of 332 years in prison.

Curiel is facing four counts of sexual assault, two counts of abusive sexual contact, four counts of sexual assault, two counts of attempted sexual assault, one count of indecent recording, one count of distribution of indecent recording, one count of conspiracy to commit sexual assault and one count of obstruction of justice.
