Can This Green Plant Be Part Of Your Fountain Of Youth

Cannabis and CBD May Help You Look, Feel and Age Better by Supporting Calm, Happiness, Sleep and Healthy Skin Everyone wants it, but it hard to come by – but can this green plant be part of your fountain of youth? What if the search for feeling younger doesn’t require a mythical spring — just a little more time to relax? Cannabis and CBD are increasingly finding their way into the wellness routines of adults who aren’t necessarily looking to get high. They want something simpler: to sleep better, take the edge off, feel happier and maybe look a little better in the mirror.

Cannabis isn’t going to turn back the biological clock. But it may have a role in helping people feel better as they get older — and that can be surprisingly powerful Think about what happens when life gets stressful. Sleep suffers. Patience disappears. We look tired. We feel tired. And suddenly, even a good day can feel like work. This is where cannabinoids such as CBD and THC are getting attention. CBD doesn’t produce the intoxicating high associated with THC, and some people use it as part of a relaxation routine. Cannabis containing THC can also produce feelings of relaxation and euphoria, although the experience varies considerably from person to person.

And there may be a simple connection between feeling younger and actually looking younger: When you’re rested, relaxed and enjoying yourself, people tend to notice. Think about what happens when life gets stressful. Sleep suffers. Patience disappears. We look tired. We feel tired. And suddenly, even a good day can feel like work. Alcohol may not be helping. Regular or heavy drinking is associated with dehydration, disrupted sleep and inflammation — all of which can take a toll on how the body feels and how the face looks over time. Alcohol can also dilate blood vessels and contribute to facial redness and puffiness. Cannabis has its own risks, but unlike alcohol, it isn’t known to cause the same pattern of dehydration and alcohol-related facial aging. This doesn’t make cannabis an anti-aging drug; it simply makes the comparison more complicated than the traditional cocktail-hour culture might suggest. And it is where cannabinoids such as CBD and THC are getting attention. CBD doesn’t produce the intoxicating high associated with THC, and some people use it as part of a relaxation routine. And there may be a simple connection between feeling younger and actually looking younger: When you’re rested, relaxed and enjoying yourself, people tend to notice. Here’s where the science gets particularly interesting. Our skin has an endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in maintaining the skin’s balance. Researchers are studying how cannabinoids interact with the system and whether CBD may have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which could benefit skin. Early research is promising but hardly definitive. Small studies have found potential improvements in areas such as skin hydration and elasticity from topical CBD formulations. Translation: Don’t throw away your moisturizer just yet. CBD is not a proven wrinkle eraser, and there’s nowhere near enough evidence to call it a fountain of youth in a bottle. But the research is interesting enough where cannabis-derived ingredients are becoming increasingly common in the beauty and skincare worlds. The more compelling argument for cannabis and CBD may have nothing to do with wrinkles. Aging well is about more than appearances. It’s about maintaining energy, enjoying life, sleeping well, staying socially connected and finding ways to manage the inevitable stresses associated with getting older. For some adults, cannabis can be part of the equation. A low-dose cannabis experience might help someone unwind at the end of a long day. CBD may become part of a nighttime or relaxation routine. And simply creating a ritual around slowing down can have value. Of course, cannabis isn’t for everyone. THC can cause unwanted effects, interact with medications and impair coordination and judgment. CBD products also vary widely in quality and concentration. So perhaps the real fountain of youth isn’t about finding something making us younger. Maybe it’s finding more ways to feel good about the age we are. And if a little cannabis or CBD helps you relax, laugh more, sleep better or take a few minutes to enjoy the moment? It’s not a bad place to start.
