What is an illustration of what the Bible has to say about walking “the narrow way?”

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I was excited for my children to watch the SpaceX rescue of the astronauts that had been left in space because I remember watching the Apollo missions when I was a kid. As the SpaceX rocket launched, the reporter talked about the narrow trajectory and the necessary precision required. As I was trying to explain it to my children, one of them said, “Mommy, is that what Jesus meant when He said the way is narrow? At that moment, my mother’s heart was filled with praise. This was so insightful – out of the mouths of babes. What an illustration of what the Bible has to say about walking “the narrow way.” – N.W.

A: July 20, 1969, marked a historic day when American astronauts astonished the world with their spectacularly successful first visit to the moon. They were able to succeed because they steered the Apollo 11 craft along a very narrow trajectory through space. No deviation was permitted, and flight corrections were made periodically throughout the historic voyage.

Now suppose the NASA control center in Houston had received word from Apollo 11 that the astronauts were off course and had replied, “Oh, that’s all right. A number of paths lead to the moon. Just keep on the way you are going.” We know they would have kept going – but they never would have come back.

People today don’t like the word narrow, but Jesus clearly said there are two roads to the future for all of us: The way to Hell and destruction is broad, but the way to Heaven is narrow because Jesus is the only way.

It is wonderful when we are able to glean the truth of God’s Word and rejoice when we hear our children reflect on it in childlike faith.
