I do want to belong to Jesus and do something for Him

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I went to a vacation Bible school, and I learned a lot about things that happen in space. One of the lessons was about God sending us a lifeline. I still don’t understand how that’s possible, but I do want to belong to Jesus and do something for Him. – L.L.

A: In the early years of the space program, helicopters picked up astronauts whose space capsules had parachuted into the sea as they returned from space. A tiny spacecraft would be located in the enormous ocean, and the astronauts would be lifted out of their capsule into the helicopter, which then flew them to the safety of a nearby ship.

Think about God hovering over the entire world and watching all that happens. He is always seeking to pull people out of sin. He sends out a lifeline to prevent people from drowning in their sin.

Some people grab onto God’s rescue line, which is His one and only Son, Jesus Christ. He came to save people from their sin. When we receive this lifeline, we are saved from the guilt of sin, and when life on this earth is over, we are received into God’s heavenly home because we have believed in all that Jesus says and represents.

How do we do this? By asking God to save us from our sins. He will come into our lives and change us and send His very Spirit to be with us every day, helping us to live for Him. Salvation depends on what Jesus has done for us, not what we do for Him. And He wants us to live for Him.
