Gadgets: Wi-Fi wherever you go
Published in Science & Technology News
With the TravlFi JourneyGo 4G LTE Hotspot, you'll have Wi-Fi wherever you go.
The dark gray, pocket-sized (3.46 inches by 0.93 inches deep) travel-ready JourneyGo 4G LTE Hotspot ensures you have a secure internet connection at vacation destinations. It is designed to work virtually anywhere in the U.S., including on the road in an RV, in hotels, at beaches and almost anywhere else.
On the fly, it automatically switches to the strongest network signal available among many of the largest cellular carriers in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The main difference between using JourneyGo and using Wi-Fi on your cellular phone is that your cellphone only connects to your provider. TravlFi connects to the best signal in your area among multiple different cellular networks.
TravlFi lists typical download speeds as 10 to 35 Mbps, with a high of 150 Mbps, which is always dependent on the location. The maximum upload speed is 50 Mbps. It has an IP64 rating, so it's dust-tight and can withstand water splashes.
It is rated to work for up to 16 hours before a USB-C charge is needed for the 4,700 mAh polymer lithium battery. The battery life will vary depending on the number of devices connected, which is up to 10.
No SIM card is required, and a wide variety of data plans are available, including an unlimited option. Best of all, there are no contracts or prepaid data plans. Instead, you prepay on a month-to-month basis depending on your data usage needs and travel schedule, ensuring you're not paying for a data plan not being used for long periods.
The JourneyGo 4G LTE Hotspot is $199, and the TravlFi JourneyGo Hotspot Carrying Case is $20. Data plans range from 2GB of data for $19 to unlimited data for $99, which is ideal for 4K streaming, remote work and gaming.
A 5G hotspot from TravlFi is expected to be released later this year.

Acefast's Acefit Pro true wireless earbuds are well-rounded with an open-ear design.
Open-ear earbuds are gaining popularity, but are relatively unknown to many. What makes them unique is that they don't sit in your ears. Instead, they sit outside your ear canal, allowing you to hear both the music and your surroundings. The Acefit Pro features ear hooks for a secure fit and delivers music with clear, crisp sound.
The setup and use are the same as regular TW earbuds; pair them (Bluetooth 5.4) and play. What's new and different is the Acefit Pro's have Night Safety Mode, technology consisting of a matrix of 40 breathing lights around the ear area. The technology is a visual cue designed to enhance user safety during low-light conditions, thereby making the user more visible to others. The Acefast app offers eight settings to control them.
Open-ear earbuds can be a different experience if you've never used them, but the adjustment is quick. The Acefit Pros are lightweight due to their ear hook design. They are as thin as 0.7 mm and constructed from aviation-grade titanium wire, allowing them to fit all ear shapes and sizes. In addition to the great sound, they are comfortable.
The high-quality sound comes from a three-magnetic super-linear speaker, touted by AceFast as the first compact speaker on the market with a maximum high amplitude of 0.5 mm. The custom-built speakers feature proprietary technology to deliver clear sound with minimal distortion.
The charging case features an LED floating digital display that shows the power level. With the case charging, you'll get up to 25 hours of listening time, with each charge lasting up to 6 hours at 60% volume. They have an IP54 dustproof and waterproof rating, and you can turn each earbud on and off independently.
