BOSTON — Roman Anthony isn’t going anywhere.

The Red Sox announced Wednesday afternoon that they have signed Anthony to an eight-year contract extension covering the 2026-33 seasons. The deal also includes a club option for 2034, ensuring the talented outfielder remains under club control for the next decade.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, who broke the news earlier Wednesday, the deal is worth $130 million and includes significant performance escalators that could take the maximum value of the deal to $230 million. Depending on where Anthony finishes in the AL Rookie of the Year vote, the extension would buy out either three or four years of free agency.

The deal will ensure Anthony remains a franchise mainstay for the next decade.

Since making his MLB debut on June 9 Anthony has lived up to his billing as the No. 1 prospect in baseball. The 21-year-old outfielder is batting .283 with two home runs, 19 RBIs, an .828 OPS and 1.8 wins above replacement through his first 46 career games. His promotion also roughly coincides with the point at which the Red Sox took off following a disappointing start, and since his call-up the club is 32-16.

The deal is the latest and most significant example of the Red Sox locking up their young cornerstones to long-term extensions, following earlier deals with right-hander Brayan Bello (six years, $55 million), outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela (eight years, $50 million), infielder Kristian Campbell (eight years, $60 million) and left-hander Garrett Crochet (six years, $170 million).
