Jordi Alba signs contract extension with Inter Miami through 2027 season

Inter Miami delivered much-needed good news to its fans Thursday amid a slump during which the team has just one win over the past six games.
The club announced that it signed star left back and 2024 MLS All-Star Jordi Alba to a contract extension through the 2027 season.
“I’m happy to renew my contract because I have the desire to continue competing, and because of how I feel at the club, with the affection I receive from fans at every match,” Alba said in a press release. “I’ve been very comfortable these past two years at the club, and I feel very loved by all the fans. We have that desire to continue competing, to continue winning, and, hopefully, win as many titles as possible.”
Terms of the contract were not released. Last year, the 36-year-old Spaniard made $1.25 million in base salary and had guaranteed compensation of $1.5 million.
Alba was a key player throughout a record-breaking season for Inter Miami in 2024. He helped lead the team to its first Supporters’ Shield title and the MLS single-season points record. He had 20 goal contributions (five goals and 15 assists) in 31 appearances during the MLS season and playoffs and had 21 assists across all 38 matches.
So far this season, he ranks second on the team with five assists in 11 MLS games, including two Wednesday night in a 3-3 road tie against the San Jose Earthquakes. His legendary sprints up the left flank and crosses to the box are a big part of Miami’s attack.
Prior to joining Inter Miami in 2023, Alba had a stellar career in Spain. He was a key member in Spain’s 2012 UEFA Euro title-winning campaign, captained the national team and lifted the trophy as they were crowned 2023 UEFA Nations League champions. At the club level, he played with Lionel Messi at Barcelona and won La Liga six times, the UEFA Champions League once, a FIFA Club World Cup, and the Copa del Rey seven times.
He was named to the 2012 UEFA Euro Team of the Tournament as well as to the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season and the La Liga Team of the Season once each.
Inter Miami, which is in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, returns to action Sunday night at home against Orlando City (7 p.m., Apple TV).
